Folk, Rock
Since the 2000s, Dany Placard has been releasing solo albums and touring across the province. From his hometown in Saguenay to Montreal, his poignant lyrics and catchy folk melodies have resonated throughout Québec, ever since his early days with the band Plywood ¾. Whether it's Rang de l'église (2005), Raccourci (2008), Placard (2010), Santa Maria (2014), or the acclaimed Full Face (2017), his albums have consistently received warm praise from both critics and audiences alike.
In addition to his career as a singer-songwriter, Placard has also worked as a producer for several well-known figures in the Quebec music scene, including Guillaume Bordel, Sara Dufour, Laura Sauvage, Douance, and Francis Faubert. In 2015, Placard expanded his horizons by composing the soundtrack for the short film Bleu tonnerre, directed by Philippe David Gagné and Jean-Marc E. Roy, while also stepping in front of the camera to play the leading role.
After exploring psychedelic atmospheres with his more recent albums J’connais rien à l’astronomie (2020) and Astronomie(suite) (2021), Placard, alongside Julie Doiron — with whom he lives and tours — released their eponymous duo album Julie et Dany (2022), recorded in their home in New Brunswick.
This collaboration brought Placard back to his folk roots, culminating in his 15th album Avoir Su, released on September 27, 2024. Inspired by the winter melancholy and the boredom of wide open spaces, the album offers a deeply personal and sensitive proposal, tinged by the loss of his best friend, his dog Stormy. A collection of songs that showcases Placard's songwriting talent, Avoir Su warms the heart while making the outside grayness feel a little softer.
