Experimental rock
The experimental rock trio Yoo Doo Right (Montreal, CA) weaves together melodic and noisy guitars, warped synthesizer textures, thick basslines, and calculated percussive outbursts to create sprawling and cathartic compositions. Drawing inspiration from post-rock, krautrock, shoegaze, classical music, musique concrète, and electroacoustic soundscapes, the band crafts a unique sonic identity described as “giant monoliths of roaring riffs crashing against swarms of turbulent rhythms” (PopMatters).
Since their formation in 2016, Yoo Doo Right has released two full-length albums (Don’t Think You Can Escape Your Purpose and A Murmur, Boundless to the East), three EPs (Nobody Panicked and Everybody Got On, EP2, and The Sacred Fuck EP), and several singles, while embarking on extensive tours across Canada, the United States, and Europe. Along the way, they have played prestigious festivals such as SXSW, Levitation, Dunk! Fest, Sled Island, Treefort Music Fest, and M for Montreal, sharing stages with acts like Acid Mothers Temple, DIIV, A Place to Bury Strangers, Wooden Shjips, Kikagaku Moyo, FACS, and Jessica Moss.
Set to release on November 8, 2024, via Mothland, the solemn and defiant From the Heights of Our Pastureland fits seamlessly into Yoo Doo Right's rich discography. This heartfelt and deliberate sonic poem tackles themes of relentless and destructive expansion in the name of "progress," imminent collapse, and the profound implications of rebuilding.
