From pogo to hardcore dancing, author Jolène Ruest seeks to trace the history of the mosh pit in Quebec in her upcoming book: the birth and evolution of this dance across musical genres, eras, and regions.
For several months, she has been interviewing the people who form the pit. Le Phoque OFF: what a perfect opportunity to start a slam (because we're in Quebec City) and discuss it with pros!
A socio-historical chat and crowd anecdotes with guests including Louise Girard and Sébastien Collin.
The mosh pit sets the rhythm of Jolène Ruest’s creative universe: it’s mentioned in her novels (Monogamies, Les danseurs étoiles parasitent ton ciel) and is the central subject of her poetry collection, Critique de crowd, the title of which comes from her shows and columns on CISM 89.3. Since 2012, Jolène Ruest has been analyzing on air this spontaneous dance that characterizes punk, metal, hardcore shows... and much more!
This project has been made possible in part by the Government of Canada and is carried out with the financial support of the Government of Quebec.
